Gannet at Great Limber

Jayne was walking the dog when she spotted a young gannet with a damaged wing in the Limber Village Hall car park. She rang the RSPCA and an officer retrieved the bird. The RSPCA man said the bird might have a damaged wing, but there was nothing wrong with the beak - he got a nasty peck. These are big, powerful sea-birds with a wing-span of up to 6 feet - rather him than me!

Something similar happened in October 2007, when Jayne was walking the dog early one morning. The dog (a very small terrier) jumped on a dark shape by the side of the pond only to find it was an angry gannet, twice the size of the dog. Rapid retreat!
